Visual Hierarchy Redesign
The goal of this assignment was to redesign an image that utilized poor visual hieararchy in its design. The text, color and layout choices for the original design did not indicate a hiearchy for the information provided. The viewer's eyes are not drawn to one particular location and the viewer is unable to determine which information is most important. The word 'Yet' has significant prominence, but is not important to the main idea of the slide. The color choices are random and to not serve any purpose in the design.
When designing the new slide, I wanted to use colors, images, scale and visual cues to create a visual hierarchy. The main idea of the slide is the concept of the "Invisible Hand" so I used the color yellow and a larger font to draw the viewer's eye to this phrase. I continued with the color yellow to highlight the main principles of the concept, and used pointing fingers and an arrow to further direct the viewer's attention. I used the image of a scale to represent the concept of items being balanced. The items on the scale are secondary to the primary focus of the slide, so a smaller font and more subdued colors were used for these items.
