Visual Cues Redesign
The goal of this assignment was to redesign an image that utilized poor visual cues in its design. The original design did not contain any cues to direct the viewer's attention. The lack of any visual cues make the slide confusing and the instructional objective of the slide is lost. The original slide draws the viewer's attention to the word 'Yet' and the scale. The word 'Yet' has no significant importance to the slide and the scale used does not properly represent the concept being taught.
When designing the new slide, I wanted to use visual cues to direct the attention of the viewer to the important information. I wanted the viewer to initially be drawn to the overriding concept of the 'Invisible Hand.' From there I used two pointing hands to direct the viewer's attention to the idea that "self-interest balances out competition." I encompassed this idea in an arrow to further direct the viewer's attention to the idea that this leads to "many choices and low prices." Finally I used a balanced scale to indicate that 'self-interest' was balanced by 'competition.' The final slide clearly illustrates the important principles of the 'Invisible Hand' concept.
