Video Production
Growth in my reading intervention class is measured in terms of a student's Lexile measure, so it is important that students understand what a Lexile is and how it can be used to foster reading growth. This video production would be shown to students at the beginning of the school year and made available in the Google Classroom for the entire school year as a reference. Another video would also be made to be available to parents in order to facilitate their understanding of Lexile measures.
The production relies on arrows and segmented text reveal in order to adhere to Mayer's signaling principle. Extraneous sounds, pictures, and text were eliminated to adhere to the coherence principle and minimize extraneous processing demands. The information was segmented across several slides with short text statements to adhere to the segmenting and redundancy principles. Headlines, contrasting colors, and pictures were used to draw learner's attention and adhere to the C.R.A.P. principles. Additionally, the fonts, colors, slide designs were all chosen to create a cohesive presentation free from distractions.
