Concept Map
The goal of this assigment was to create a concept map that answers the question "What is Effective Graphic Design?" Five principles of effective graphic design were included within the concept map: color, grouping for meaning, creating a visual hierarchy, creating unity within the design, and using contrast.
Consistent and compatible colors and fonts were used to create the concept map. A visual hierarchy was created through the use of shapes, type weight and visual cues. A square frame was used to identify the central concept of the concept map and oval frames were used to identify the central principles of graphic design. Additionally, a decreasing font size was used as a visual cue. Visual unity was created through the use of symmetry, color, shapes and typeface.
Colors that were compatible, while still providing enough contrast to differentiate between various elements were chosen. This resulted in a clean, easy to read design. Excitement, visualization, and enhancement were created through the use of symbols that were representative of design. These included the use of paint brushes as pointers and frames to encompass key principles. The final product provides a clear visual representation of the components of an effective graphic design.
